Using cloZure
Use the search box to find relevant cloze tests (or drill down through the category or index listings). There are also links to related tests on any test page. Clicking on any of these will take you to categories or tests about similar topics.
Once you find a test, you can tinker with just how difficult it will be to complete by selecting either 'strict' or 'relaxed' word order in the 'Choose your skill level' section at the top of the page. The 'strict' level means that you must fill in the blanks in just the right order. Getting the correct word will gain you two points and fill in the next blank spot in the text. Clicking on the wrong word will show the word briefly in the correct position before returning it to your word list. It will also cost one point, decreasing your score by one for each incorrect guess. To re-set the text, refresh the browser or click on any of the in-text words (those you've placed correctly).
The 'relaxed' setting allows you to fill in words in any order, but will only earn you one point per correct word. Also, if you get the order wrong you will not be able to score any more points. In other words, the relaxed mode will not score highly at all.
You can also select high, medium or low difficulty levels for a test. The higher the level the more words get removed from the text, which makes it harder to complete without mistakes, but also gives you more opportunites to score points. To be exact - after the first sentance (which is gap free), the hard mode removes an average of 1 in 5 words from the text. Medium difficulty removes one word in seven. The easy mode remvoves one word in nine. Scoring is the same for all modes, but the harder modes give you higher scores when completed without fault because they have more words available to score with.
Beyond that... this application is free (as in free of support :-). However, if you have a question or suggestion (or some kind words) send me a message - I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
